So ~21" standard or ~24" widescreen would be an upgrade. If you like Viewsonic (they are good), then you are looking at about $400, delivered. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824116104 But then, you said significantly larger. In that case, you might like a 27.5" better.

I am using a DLP projector to view I do agree that a standard monitor looses it's height and it seems silly to spend more money on a set that is not better quality wise, just shorter.

A standard CRT TV only shows about 30% of the colours the human eye can see while the latest plasma panels can show around 90%. Afraid your going to have to decide which one to go with, or get a projector with the same display ratio as your monitor. The other option is to set the card to "extend" and this results in having to manipulate the output onto the right hand side of the screen as "extend" is too wide for a "standard" desktop.

For anything with detail, you'll want 1080i... and a monitor that's actually up to that resolution. Most of the LCDs and many of the plasmas are just up to the Widescreen or standard, a 1080i picture is 6x larger than a DV picture. That is significant. That way, you have a wide image without adding file size.
